Ream: Cambodia’s next development destination
Ream is located 26 km from the seaport city of Sihanoukville, one of Cambodia’s prime economic centres. The benefits from its proximity to Sihanoukville in terms of infrastructure and utilities are matched by the exclusiveness of its location and the outstanding beauty of Ream National Park.Road access is excellent and Sihanoukville International Airport – only 8 km away from Ream – is due to become the busiest Cambodian airport in the following years. The capital Phnom Penh is within 2.5 hours overland while by 2012 newly constructed roads will put Thailand and Vietnam at close proximity.

The economic and social impact of RRD’s development project is manifold and catalytic. An estimated 600 jobs will be created which will help alleviate local poverty caused by a high unemployment rate. RRD’s financing of a US$120,000 school construction project will also help to develop the regional tourism sector with the provision of hotel management courses, foreign languages and other areas of education.
Additional opportunities in fields such as fishing, horticulture, mechanics, sewing etc. will be explored through a professional study once finance is in place. Subject to the study’s results, RRD will partner with other organisations for the setup of several local micro-financing initiatives.
It’s very clear that RRD’s development of Ream beach will benefit the entire Ream-Sihanoukville region. The need for frequent airline connections with Sihanoukville International Airport will be augmented; an increased number of people will visit Ream National Park; nautical activity on Cambodia’s southern coast will develop. At the same time, upon completion of Phase One, the Meas family will use the available cash liquidities to develop the rest of the RRD project.
